The UCP³ architecture is based on a grid of multiple federated data sources (databases and other systems). This feature, unique to Acuo, provides the granularity to support multiple disparate sites and departments yet also enables the requisite scalability. With a federated model, a distinct database or system can be created for each site. Access can be limited to this specific site, expanded to multiple sites, or a unified view of the global archive can be provided. Workflow, routing and ILM policies can be established for each source (and therefore each site), and storage capacity can be added with no impact to existing sites. This feature is native to UCP³.

Single-Site, Multi-Site, Regional and National Archive Deployment Options

Acuo's Universal Clinical Platform is designed as a peer-aware grid solution, enabling multiple sites to appear as a single logical archive designed in a hub-and-spoke or fully distributed configuration. Acuo software can be deployed at local, regional and data center nodes, each with the same functionality. Workflow (e.g. image routing and prefetch) and ILM (retention/purge) can be configured separately for each local node or applied globally. Requests for images to the local node are propagated across the grid and routed back to the requester. Likewise, changes to a study at any node are propagated throughout the grid to ensure data integrity across the entire archive.

Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Alternatives

Acuo's solution design deploys a highly available "N+1" dual data center architecture, delivering full business continuity for archiving operations. Each data center has redundant archive servers, providing high availability within the data center. Should multiple components fail, archive operations are redirected to the secondary data center automatically. All image storage is replicated to the secondary data center, providing full disaster recoverability for clinical content.
